Department of Arabic, University of Peshawar Holds Its First International Conference on “Arabic: Thought and Civilization”

The Department of Arabic, University of Peshawar, successfully organized its First International Conference titled “Arabic: Thought and Civilization”, bringing together scholars, researchers, academics, and students from Pakistan and various countries around the world.

The two-day international conference was held on August 28–29, 2026, at the Bara Gali Campus, University of Peshawar, as part of the academic activities of the Second Educational Gathering organized by the Department of Arabic.

The conference provided an important academic platform for scholars and researchers to discuss the historical, intellectual, cultural, educational, and contemporary dimensions of the Arabic language and its contribution to human civilization.

International Participation

The conference received valuable academic participation from scholars and researchers from several countries, including:

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, Türkiye, and Palestine.

In addition, researchers from different universities and academic institutions across Pakistan actively participated in the conference.

Approximately 50 research papers were presented during the conference by scholars and researchers from Pakistan and abroad, covering a wide range of topics related to Arabic language, literature, thought, culture, translation, education, and contemporary developments.

Major Themes

The conference addressed various important themes, including the relationship between Arabic and cultural identity, the role of Arabic in preserving human heritage, the contributions of Arab and Muslim scholars to different fields of knowledge, Arabic literature and creativity, Arabic as a bridge between civilizations, and the role of translation in cultural and intellectual exchange.

The conference also focused on contemporary issues such as Arabic and Artificial Intelligence, digitalization, electronic dictionaries and libraries, teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, and Arabic in the media and social media.

A Platform for Academic Exchange

The conference provided an opportunity for researchers to present their scholarly work, exchange ideas, and engage in academic discussions on the past, present, and future of the Arabic language.

The participation of scholars from different countries highlighted the international and intercultural significance of Arabic as a language of thought, knowledge, communication, and civilization.
