Dr. Muhammad Sher Ali Khan was born on April 4, 1974 in Swat. At his early age, he worked as signboard painter and calligraher in a printing press in Swat. In 1997, he studied Fine Arts and did Bachelor (BFA) and Master (MFA) in Communication Design from Department of Art and Design, University of Peshawar. In 2005, he joined Department of Art and Design, University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Muzaffarabad as lecturer. In 2006, he started teaching in the Department of Art and Design, University of Peshawar. In 2017, he obtained his Doctoral (Ph D) degree from Department of Archaeology, Peshawar University. The title of his doctoralresearch was "Allusion in the Buddhist Narrative Relief Panels from the Swat Valley". His main focus is research on the indigenous arts and crafts, Buddhist narrative art, and art education. His research works have been published in various research journals. From 2017 to 2020, he served as Head of the Department Art and Design.

Besides, he served the University of Peshawar in various administrative and managerial capicities. He remained Resident Warden for about two decades of New Hostel Block-B and Khushal Khan Khattak Hostel (No. 1). He is performing his duties as Staff Proctor since 2012. Since 2019, he is providing services as Organizer, Creative Arts Society, University of Peshawar.
