About

After doing my MSc from Department of Zoology in the session 2004-06, I joined University of Peshawar as Lecturer in 2007. I was trained in working on mosquitoes; an important group of insects responsible of millions of deaths world wide because of it acting as a vector of deadly diseases like Malaria, Dengue, Chikangunya and Encephalitis. My PhD work was on the distribution and ecology of Dengue mosquito Aedes aegypt in Pakistan. After completing my PhD in 2012 from the University of Sheffield, England I joined back Department of Zoology as an Assistant Professor and since then I am training the new generation of this area in understanding Zoology and becoming a good researcher in this field of Science.

Currently my BS, MSc, MPhil and PhD students are working on diverse research topics related to mosquitoes, sand flies and ants. PhD scholars of mine are currently working on molecular mechanism of insecticide resistance in Anopheles stephensi and diversity of ants and wasps. A number of PhD scholars have completed their PhD under my supervision working on bats diversity, mosquito diversity, insecticide resistance in Aedes aegypti, ants diversity, molecular genetics of mahseer, biofloc farming of fish and vector dyanmics of sandflies. My main research area is vector borne diseases as incriminating the vectors of Malaria, Leishmania and Dengue will help us in understanding the transmission of these diseases in the endemic areas. Understanding the habitats of these medically important insects will help us in devising control strategy for stopping transmission of vector borne diseases in endemic area. Along with medically important insects I also work on the taxonomy of ants in Pakistan, which todate is the least explored group in the country. I am also interested in topics related to insect as well as general taxonomy (classical and molecular) and wild life.

I welcome students from across Pakistan who are interested in working on the taxonomy and ecology of mosquitoes, sand flies, ticks and ants.
